This is the story of Charlie Russell's first popular painting, according to Robert H. Fletcher, author of "Free Grass to Fences, The Montana Cattle Range Story," published for the Historical Society of Montana, 1960, University Publishers Inc., New York.
Bob Fletcher wrote the lyrics to the well-known cowboy tune, "DON'T FENCE ME IN."
